Current Challenges

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten - Ongoing

 

This program is a fun and easy way to help your child develop pre-reading skills vital to kindergarten readiness. Georgia libraries are part of this initiative to encourage parents to read 1,000 books with their children before age 5. This challenge is available all year long and must be completed before your child begins Kindergarten.​

Winter Olympics Reading Challenge - February 1 until February 28

 

The 2026 Winter Olympics will be held in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Athletes will compete in fun sports like skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating in the snowy mountains and on the ice. Celebrate by logging your reading and earning Olympic-inspired badges throughout the month of February! This challenge is for adults and young adult readers aged 13 and above.

Read Across America Reading Challenge - March 1 until March 31

Join our Read Across America challenge this month. Log your minutes as you explore new stories and adventures from coast to coast. Earn fun badges along the way and see how far your reading can take you! This challenge is for adults.

Georgia Reads for America 250 - March 3 until December 31

 

Celebrate our nation's 250th anniversary with the Georgia Reads for America250! Read at least one book from the curated reading list, and do at least one activity from each of the historical categories to complete the challenge. Read. Log. Celebrate. Make your mark on history!  This challenge is for all ages. To learn more about this statewide initiative, please visit https://america250.georgiareads.org. Love My Library Reading Challenge - April 1 until April 30

April is all about showing love for your favorite library! From books and programs to hidden gems and favorite spaces, celebrate the heart of your community. Log your reading, explore your library, and earn festive badges to complete your bingo card! This challenge is for adults.

Out of This World Sci-Fi Challenge - May 1 until May 31

​

Explore the far horizons of science fiction through the month of May! Log your reading and watch sci-fi of all sorts to earn badges throughout the challenge. This challenge is for adults.

This summer, adventure begins at your library! To complete this challenge and be entered to win a prize, you will need to read for 600 minutes, or about 15 minutes a day. All reading done between June 1 and July 31 counts!  Bring your completion badge to the library through August 1 to be entered for a chance to win a prize basket of your choice! Participants will not be automatically entered into a raffle.
