Have questions about our Summer Reading Challenge? Get your answers here! Look below for all the information you need to get the most out of your reading challenge this summer.

Getting Started

We are offering two ways to participate in our challenges this year again. We want you to join us this summer in whichever way works best for you! Even if you miss the Kick Off Party on Saturday, June 8, you will still be able to join in on the fun all summer long.

Registration

You can track your challenges online with Beanstack, stop by the library to pick up a paper version, or print your own log. If you'd like to go the paper route, don't forget to sign up online using the link below. If you choose to use Beanstack, be sure to check out our Beanstack page for tips and tricks to help you easily track all year round.

Age Groups

Not sure which age group to sign up for? No problem! See our chart below! Our challenges are available for all abilities as well. If you would like to adapt a challenge, please sign up for our paper option and request or print the challenge that best suits your ability.

Birth - 5 Years Old

We believe that you are never too young to start reading! This challenge consists of 6 badges. Each badge has a total of three activities that your child must complete in order to earn it. Activities aren't just about books and reading though! Children are encouraged to discover and interact with literature while also exploring their world with loved ones and using their imaginations to create new things. Books read during the summer also count toward our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading Challenge. Don't forget to log the titles in both challenges! Parents can also count time spent reading with their kids in their reading challenge, so make sure you keep up with how long you read together.

Incentives

To help encourage your child all summer, be sure to stop by the library after each badge you earn. Every three activities, you earn a chance to pick something from Ms. Shannon's Treasure Chest in the Children's area. If you are tracking on paper, please be sure to bring your log so you can show off all your hard work!

Completion

To complete this challenge, you must finish all 18 activities and earn all 6 badges. This year you can stop by the library as soon as you finish to pick up your big prize bag. No need to wait until the end of summer for your goodies!

1st - 5th Grade

What better way to help your child avoid the summer slump and keep up with their reading even when school's out? Elementary school kids will be trying to completely black out their Summer Reading Bingo Card by completing different activities. Activities aren't just about books and reading though! Children are encouraged to discover and interact with literature while also exploring their world with loved ones and using their imaginations to create new things. Parents can also count time spent reading with their kids in their reading challenge, so make sure you keep up with how long you read together.

Incentives

To help encourage your child all summer, be sure to stop by the library after each BINGO you complete. This includes up and down, side to side, and diagonal sets of five. Don't forget to check off your free space first! For each BINGO, you earn a chance to pick something from Ms. Shannon's Treasure Chest in the Children's area. If you are tracking on paper, please be sure to bring your log so you can show off all your hard work!

Completion

To complete this challenge, you must finish all 25 activities and earn a blackout BINGO. This year you can stop by the library as soon as you finish to pick up your big prize bag. No need to wait until the end of summer for your goodies!

Middle and high school students are reading towards a minute goal again this year. They will be encouraged to read anything and everything in order to complete it. Just make sure you are keeping track and logging all those minutes spent reading! All reading counts too: Audiobooks, magazines, manga, and even summer reading assignments can count towards your overall time. Participants will also be encouraged to participate in library activities, check out different items, and even go on an adventure for a chance to win a ticket for one of two raffles during the summer.

Compeletion

To complete the main challenge, participants will need to read a total of 1,000 minutes by August 3. That's less than 20 minutes every day! Prize Pick Up

Unlike previous years, we will not be having a Wrap-Up party at the end of the summer to provide your prizes. Instead, you will be able to stop by anytime the library is open. This means if you finish in June, you don't have to keep up with your paper log or remember to stop by in August for your prizes. All participants earn a free book as well as a prize bag. Actual prizes will differ depending on the age group of the participant.

All prizes must be picked up by Saturday, August 3.
